Heavy Oil Blender HOBTM K61 (Heavy Oil Breaker) is an additive that takes on the tough stuff - heavy oils, tar, and asphal - breaking them up for quick removal. When added to light-cycle oil, kerosene, diesel, or other common hydrocarbon solvents, HOB K61 quickly penetrates heavy-oils, asphalts and tars, greatly increasing the solvent's effectiveness.
Other solvents soften heavy-oil deposits, but often leave an impenetrable barrier that prevents removal of the deposits. Low concentrations of HOB K61 will soften the deposits and actually break them down so that the solvent can flush them away with the waste oil. The time required for dissolution depends on the temperature and thickness of the deposits, but in laboratory tests, a sample of asphalt heated to 140°F in light-cycle oil dissolves in several seconds when HOB K61 is added to the solution.
HOB K61 can be used to recover heat exchanger efficiency without mechanical cleaning and, during maintenance periods, significantly reduces mechanical cleaning time.
