Ammonia is encountered during the decontamination of process units. United Laboratories International, LLC, has developed Zyme-Ox Plus for use in circulation applications to rid process equipment of ammonia, sulfides, pyrophorics, polythionates and thiosulfates. Zyme-Ox Plus also removes residual oil and gas where heat and steam may not be an option. All of this is accomplished in one step. Field tests have shown that Zyme-Ox Plus can eliminate ammonia and sulfur-containing compounds in the time it takes to pump the product into the vessel!

Zyme-Ox Plus oxidizes sulfides, pyrophorics, polythionates and thiosulfates. It also neutralizes the ammonia trapped in sludge and residuals. The reactions occur almost immediately and decontamination is completed in half the time compared to ordinary treatments.

Zyme-Ox Plus is a safe and effective alternative to sending ammonia-bearing water to the wastewater facility during unplanned outages and scheduled shutdowns. When used in conjunction with the Zyme-Flow® Processes, it eliminates the sour and ammonia laden wastewater normally resulting from the decontamination process. By using Zyme-Ox Plus, ammonia is not covered up by a fragrance or dilution. It is chemically neutralized, ensuring the destruction of all ammonia present in the internal atmosphere.

In addition to single-step decontamination using Zyme-Ox Plus, laboratory experiments have shown that steel surfaces are passivated and protected against flash iron oxidation. This is especially important in treating fuel gas header piping.
