Decontamination of Desalter for Inspection

Challenge

A refinery in Spain decided to apply ZymeFlow Decon technology to clean a Desalter which required inspection and maintenance after 3 years of operation. The desalter had high levels of built up contaminant which can make removal of LEL and oxidation of sulfides difficult.

Solution

ZymeFlow chemistries were introduced at the suction of the mud‐wash pump and kept agitated (Boil-Out application).After eight hours of total treatment time decontamination was completed. Residual fluids remained for 2 hours until the temperature was appropriate and drained into the sewer using the mud‐wash. The results were 0% LEL and 0 ppm H2S. The vessel’s internals were clean and dry in comparison to previous cleanings using conventional technology.
